New year new projects!!

Well, January is almost over and it's been forvever since I've posted anything it seems. I do get on and see what everyone else has been doing but, just can't seem to post for myself it's not that I haven't been making things I could share with all of you guess I just haven't been in the mood do you ever feel like that? So here are some of the items I've made and taken down to a local store where I live "Funky Junk Boutique" isn't that a neat name she has antique furniture, jewelry, purses, pillows made from recycled sweaters alot of creatve things recycled, upcycled and handmade items very eclectic.
The top 5 pictures are all made in my embroidery hoop they are boutique zipper cases 3 sizes sm. med. & lg. the designs came with all the letters in the alphabet so you can choose what letter you want to use on the front or maybe not use one at all.The lg. size can be made into a fanny pack which is in pictures 3 & 4 and picture 5 is made with vinyl on the front, could use it for a cosmetic bag, pencil case or for us sewer's put our rotary cutter etc. in it very versatile. The last picture are scarves made from recycled t-shirts very fun to make just get them at your local thrift shop and pick out the t-shirts in x-lg. or xx-lg. they are the best sizes to use so you see I have been a little busy and not just reading about all of your creations. I will try to do better about posting don't give up on me see you soon.

A couple starts & finishes

This Merry Christmas is going to be a wall hanging the pattern is from the Art To Heart book "Star Of Wonder" by Nancy Halvorson don't you love the buttons on this it really makes it stand out. The snowmen pattern is from Crab-Apple Hill and it's going to be a pillow I did most of it while we were at Mrs. Miller's cabin last week.

This bag is a pattern from Marlous Designs called "Maggie's Bag" and it's going to one of my BF named Maggie the fabric is "It's a Hoot" and I made a coin purse from the Stitchin Sisters Snap Happy pattern.

The fall table runner is out of a magazine sorry I couldn't get it turned the right way it is made from flannel and wool so that's it for now need to get my starts finished then I'll post them till then Happy Stitching!!!

Mrs. Miller's cabin weekend

Last April I went on a retreat with girls from my quilt guild and there was a shop hop going on well I won the top prize of a one night stay at Mrs. Miller's cabin in "Charm, Ohio" right in the heart of Amish country... how ironic since I'm Mrs. Miller cool huh....so I invited 10 ladies from guild to go with me because I could take up to 10 people so this past weekend we went but, only 7 went 3 couldn't go and did they miss a good time. We got there at 3:00 on Thursday afternoon and stayed till Sat. morning because we decided to add an extra day so we stayed Friday night also. We had so much fun we were all doing different things, some of us took hand embroidery to do one girl put the binding on a quilt, the quilt in picture below some cut out pieces for quilts they've started and of course lots of talking & eating and can't forget shopping since the cabin is right behind Mrs Miller's quilt shop the cabin was just beautiful so peaceful & serene we are all ready to go back again. If you live close enough and would love a quiet weekend away I highly recommend this place.

A couple of finishes!

This one is an Advent quilt by Nancy Halvorson it was alot of fun to make quick & easy just the kind I like all the figures are attached by a piece of round cord elastic on a button so they are removable. I only stitched around the angel at the top the rest is not quilted. The one below is a Halloween one that I finally finished and have hanging in my kitchen I just did some wavy lines for the quilting on it my free motion quilting leaves alot to be desired well that's all for now have a great day!!

Good morning...I know it's been way to long I just haven't felt like posting....sorry maybe this is a new start and I will get back to it.
I've discovered this new site along with many others I've noticed but, just in case you haven't seen or heard about it, it's called "Pinterest" you can post pictures of all different things you love and make different boards with cute titles then someone else see's it and they can repin to ther own board and you can repin to yours from other boards sort of hard to explain so just go to my right sidebar and click on the link to "Follow me on Pinterest" and you will be hooked there are so many beautiful pictures of everything imaginable hope to see you there!!

Well, finally finished the jellyroll quilt "Rural Jardin" that I pieced together at the retreat I went to back in April, in Amish country with the ladies from my quilt guild ...to quilt it I just sewed in the ditch every other strip, wanted to free motion but, I'm just not real good at that and didn't want to mess it up. The back fabric is a cream color with little roses the same color as the red on the front with tiny blue flowers. Not sure what I will do with it just happy to have it finished...haven't done much sewing of any kind lately too much outside work to do etc. I know so many of you are having the same heat wave that we are having so be careful when working outside rest and stay hydrated better yet stay inside and sew where it's cooler....better take my own advice....

Embroidery machine & table pads....

I can't believe how long it's been since I've actually posted something I've made....sorry.....well here is a pad I made for under my embroidery machine and a little table I bought for extra work space. The idea came from some of the girl's at the quilting retreat I went to, you take 1 yd. of double sided quilted fabric turn up the bottom approx. 6-7 inches and space out pockets the size you'd like them to be and trim with seam binding around the outside so quick & easy and very handy.

Amish country quilting retreat!!

I went on my first quilting retreat last weekend to the Amish Door in Wilmot, Ohio a group from the quilting guild I belong too and 2 other guilds were there a total of 36 women. We went on Friday and could stay 2 or 3 nights my friend & I stayed the 3 nights came home on Mon. what a great time we had, no cooking, cleaning nothin but, quilting, eating and great company fun fun fun! On Sat. there was a shop hop at 6 different shops in the area of Amish country they sold 500 passports for it so you can imagine how busy the shops were we got them stamped at each shop and turned it in at the community center we received a block and a recipe from each shop and at the end of it we all gathered at a community center in Kidron to taste the different recipes and of course they had prizes to win...well guess what my name was picked first and I won the "GRAND" prize of a 1 night stay at Mrs. Miller's log cabin in Charm let me tell you what a shock that was I'm never that lucky and I could take up to 10 people with me... yes 10 so 9 friends from guild & I are going to go in Sept. and we are adding an extra night that we will split the cost of it's a beautiful cabin, fall will be a beautiful time to go...so here are some of the pictures I took. My friend and I took the same jelly roll of "Rural Jardin" unknowingly and made the same quilt top you can see how different they came out and I made a table topper. The six quilts are from each shop of course, same blocks just different fabric each beautiful and unique well I could go on and on but, I won't so if you've never gone on a retreat do go cause you'll have the time of your life can't wait till next year same time same place!!

Yep your right...I took the quilt I made last Sept. (I think) and I quilted it on the longarm machine at our local quilt shop where I took the class last week. Let me tell you I was a nervous wreck I thought oh this will be a cinch I remember all I learned last week "WRONG" my mind went almost completely blank...but with help I got it on the machine and started quilting away It's alot easier when someone isn't standing there watching you so it's quilted now and I'm happy with it, what could I expect for my first time "perfection" nah far from it but I will keep working at it I really did like it not enough to buy one though...pause...just thinking...nah! So now I need to get the binding made then I can say 100% made and quilted by Sandy...

Well finally I have the baby quilt done that I've been working on for my niece took awhile longer because I had to have my machine worked on but, it's done now. I just stitched in the ditch to quilt it but, before long I hope to be quilting on a longarm. For the binding I cut 10" strips of each of the fabric's I used in the quilt and pieced them together. I took a class yesterday at a local quilt shop to learn how to use the longarm so I can actually say I quilted any future quilt's I make. It was fun and I was very nervous but I think it will get easier with time and lot's & lot's of practice for now though this will do. I'm excited to give it to her I know she will love it who doesn't love something handmade with love.

Well the top is finished now I need to go get the batting and get it put together so I can get it quilted, I don't think I will do the quilting myself will take and have it done. Baby Blessings Quilt

These are the blocks I made to make a baby quilt for my niece who is expecting a baby girl in May. They are from the 'Baby Blessing BOM" from http://creativityamongstchaos.blogspot.com/. The center block is all hand embroidered I just picked out a few of the words I wanted to put in it, love hand embroidery but seems it takes me forever to do, then each has a 2" colored strip followed by another 2" white strip it's a 9 1/2" block not sure how I'm going to arrange them but, will show quilt when completed. Hope everyone is staying warm it's sure cold here tonight

Remember my post a couple days ago about the "FREE" sorbetto & gelato well mine came today and this is what I received. I couldn't believe it I thought maybe a small container, no, 5 lg. and 3 small all different flavors, didn't win the new choose a flavor but that's okay this is just as good waiting to try one think I'll try coconut it's one of my favorites. Friendship star

Well tonight is quilt guild meeting we haven't had one since Nov. because we don't meet in Dec. so it will be nice to get back and see everyone find out what they've been up too and what neat things they've made since Nov. This month's block is the "Friendship star" I'm quite happy with mine the color's we were to use are gold and light-medium blue makes a 12" block. So that's the latest from here have a great and "Happy Sewing".

Two Hour Tulip Purse

I know I haven't posted anything in awhile just couldn't get myself movin but, finally yesterday I made this purse it's called "The Two Hour Tulip Purse" by Janice Pope http://www.twohourtulip.com/ The fabric is "PURE" by Sweetwater for Moda. I have the charm pack and the jellyroll and just a yard of the main fabric love, love this fabric so fresh & clean looking reminds me of being at the beach. Well I have to admit it did take me longer than 2 hrs. but, I was doing other things also in between. I made the handles over the shoulder length and covered a button to match. Today I'm going to start a baby blanket for my niece who's expecting a little girl in May and I'm sure it will take me that long to finish I'm not quick like alot of you experienced quilters out there. We're expecting the snow storm hat some of you have already gotten so will be a good day to stay in and sew, stay warm and I'll keep you updated on progress of blanket

Our local Boy Scout troop had a breakfast with Santa & Mrs. Claus Saturday morning at one of our local churches so being the good mamaw I am (hehe) I really try to be anyhow, I took my 2 grandson's down to see them. They first got their picture taken then had breakfast consisting of pancakes, sausage, orange slices and choice of beverage then they could get their faces painted, make a craft a necklace or bracelet out of cereal and color some Christmas pictures. They had a real fun time and so did mamaw and the Boy Scouts had a real good turnout so all is merry & bright!! HO HO HO Merry Christmas!

Well the tree is up and the stockings are hung so now it's just sit back and wait. I only need now to get everything put away and clean then the wait begins, have my shopping done nothing is wrapped but, that won't take long maybe do a little baking not much cause I'm the one who will eat it DH doesn't have much of a sweet tooth he's a meat & potatoes kinda guy but, my 2 grandson's no scratch that 1 grandson will help me the other one takes after his "pop" that's what he calls his grandpa well it's been a long day so will say good night sweet dreams all!!

I bought the bottom wreath at Wal-Mart and the 2 others I made out of garland I made the top hat out of cardboard and felt the scarf is a pair of knee length socks, I couldn't find a scarf in the color I wanted and seen these and a scarf was born. He was fun to make and I thank Karen so much for the idea and for sharing it she has alot of really neat ideas go see for yourself!

Last night a friend and I went to a quilt shop for their Christmas open house at "The Polka Dot Pincushion" http://www.pdpincushion.com/ and of course you have to buy something so this is what I bought. I just love the fabric on the left of picture it's called "Tale of 2 Kitties" by Jacqueline Paton for Red Rooster Fabrics it is just so whimsical and fun had to have some of it, they had goodies to eat, wine, pop door prizes and of course "discounts" we had a good time rained cats n dogs on the way home and now this morning it's snowing well it is Dec.1st after all. A very dear friend's daughter is expecting a baby girl in Jan. (by the way she's having a few problem's so please keep her and the baby in your prayer's) thanks. They had a shower for her last Sat. at a local tea parlor and this is what I made for her. The baby's name is Emma Grace so I put "Emma" on a bib just had fun making up this basket!

What I've been doing!

These are BOTW that I've been working on from a local quilt shop "The Little Red Quilt House" there are 12 blocks so I still have 4 to finish and they must be done by Dec. 4th. because we are getting together to finish the quilt that day at the quilt shop I'm very happy with how they've turned out anxious to see the finished quilt.

.

We had our Christmas party for our quilt guild this month because we don't meet in Dec. it was held at "The Blue Heron" restaurant the food was yummy I might add, it was a chicken dish with garlic mashed potatoes, grren beans, choice of beverage and chocolate mousse for dessert. We had a gift exchange and if you had a secret sister she was revealed then. I received from my secret sister the charm pack "Fancy Hill Farm" by Robyn Pandolph, Oh Sew Charming pattern to use the charm pack for and Season's Greetings stitch n hang cross stitch kit the turquoise organizer was from the gift exchange and it can also be used as a purse liner she filled the inside pockets with handy little items we had a great time!

I aslo went to Florida for a few day's to visit my BF and hubby that's what the picture of the quilt is from it was made by his great great great grandma in 1860 while her husband was off to war. It is in excellent condition considering it's age. The sunrise picture is taken out their back door one morning and the sunset pictures were taken the last night I was there beautiful 70-80 degree weather the whole time I was there, we went to a quilt shop in Clearwater called "Rainbow's End" http://rainbowsendquiltshoppe.com/
they have so many bolt's of material you don't know where to start but I was a good girl and didn't go overboard but I sure could've check out their website above. Well that's all for now hope to get other blocks finished soon and will post when done till then "Happy Sewing"

This past weekend was our annual "Fall Foliage Tour" for our county there are usually 10-12 stops on the tour being it was such a beautiful weekend yesterday DH & I took a motorcycle ride to a few of the stops... one was a county park where there were alot of Civil War re-enactment tents set-up with different things used during the war and how things were done then....one picture shows instruments and medicines used during surgeries to remove a limb, a teepee where they had an indian sitting talking about the different indian tribes from this area they had horse drawn carriage rides, food tents w/lots of good food to buy and help support different organizations... another spot on the tour was a alpaca farm where she shears the alpaca and has classes using the hair in fibre arts....another was one of the larger dairy farms in the area they had alot of their farm machines out new & old....another was a home actually right down the road from my house who has a petting zoo, country barn, pumpkins etc. for sale...an apple orchard but we didn't stop there it was just a great weekend for this the weather couldn't have been more perfect thanks to you "Lord" hope you enjoy looking at what I did for part of my weekend and hope your's was just as beautiful & enjoyable

The Haunted Hallow yiiiiiiiikes

I haven't posted anything in awhile so today I went to our friendly quilt shop and bought backing for this halloween quilt, the center & other fabric is "The Haunted Hallow" by Jacqueline Paton for Red Rooster Fabrics and the backing I have no idea what it is I just liked it and it matched perfectly so tomorrow I will get busy cutting & sewing it together and hopefully I'll have something to post then. I think it's going to make a real cute wallhanging but for now I have to go watch Dancing with the stars so till tomorrow Good night & sleep tight!!

This is my new project a "throw" for my couch to cuddle up with on the Fall & Winter nights that are in the not to distant future. It's name is Simply Charming by "Cozy Quilt Designs" and I made it out of Portobella Market by 3 Sisters for Moda, the dimensions are 64 1/2" x 76 1/2" so it will be a nice size to get comfy cozy in maybe even with DH. Hoping to get it finished today will show picture when done. Hope all of you are having a great Labor Day weekend spending it with family, friends or whoever maybe getting in that last summer picnic I can't believe it's Sept. already hate to see the end of summer but still looking forward to my favorite season "Fall" fresh brisk clean air the smell of leaves being burnt and crackling fires in the fireplace just making myself want to get this done and cuddle up in it so I better close and get a sewin' love to you all♥

43 Years of Wedded Bliss♥

Today DH and I are celebrating 43 yrs. of wedded bliss today I can't believe how fast the time has gone by we've shared alot together more up's than down's and we have so much to be grateful for 2 beautiful children and now 2 beautiful grandson's whom we both adore. We were high school sweethearts after graduation DH went to college then we were married before God, family & friends. DH spent 4 yrs. in the Navy, our son was born while he as in and our daughter after he got out. We're lookng forward to DH's retirement in a couple years we'd like to be able to travel and just enjoy life God willing. I know it won't be another 43 yrs. but hopefully many more happy years to look forward to♥

Beautiful day for a ride!

Hubby and I got up early this morning and started out on a motorcycle ride for the day, beautiful and hot but having that wind in your face not hair cause we do wear helmets just nothin like it, enjoying what's getting close to the last lazy, hazy day's of summer. We started out going to visit friend's who have a camp down by Mohican State Park then we went to Landoll's Mohican Castle for lunch way back off the main roads in the woods what a beautiful place to enjoy the wildlife and each other. We left there and rode along the Mohican river quite a few people in canoe's and rafts leisurely floating down the river. I took the picture of Hubby while riding and the picture of the Amish buggy coming towards us what a difference in vehicles I wonder what the kid's are thinking when we passed them if you look in the mirror you can see me taking the picture we had a really nice day but my "butt" was happy to get home hope all of you had a great day whatever you may have been doing!

Well friends here is my first finished quilt I took it to Karen who helped me design the pattern and pick out the fabric to have her quilt it for me. I am so happy with how it turned out it's 74 1/2" x 85 1/2" the name of the quilt design is "popcorn" I choose just a white Moda muslin for the backing and the thread on back is rust color and white thread on front and I'm thrilled with it now I'm getting anxious to start a new one. I'd like to make one for each of my kid's and 2 grandson's that's the plan anyhow. I put it on my antique bed in the guest bedroom I think it looks like it was made for that bed!

My very first full fledged quilt top♥

I just completed my very first actual quilt top "am I excited" you bet I am...the blocks I have to admit I only made one of the them it was the block for our May meeting at our Material Girls Quilt Guild and I happened to win them if you make a block your name goes in the hat for all the blocks and I was the lucky one. I've had a hard time deciding what to do so I took them up to one of the girls in the guild who has a quilt shop and she helped me pick the pattern and fabric for the additional blocks and borders. The green border is by Deb Strain for Moda and the white border is IN LOVE WITH NATURE by Susan Branch for RJR fabrics. The name of the blocks is called Shooting Star made out of scraps everyone had we all have them don't we!! Now that the top is finished I will take it back to Karen, pick out the backing and get the batting wanted to do that today but didn't have time before the shop closed so will do it next week one day and then I will have her quilt it on her long arm think it will turn out to be a queen size. If your wondering why the green block is in there someone I guess didn't pay close enough attention to the directions of the block it was suppose to be a light background...oh well it turned out just fine and I love it!!

New sewing bag ♥

I just finished making this sewing bag/ purse today we have our quilt guild meeting tonight so I'll have something to take for "show n tell". The pattern is Amy Butler's Swing bag and I used Amy Barrickman fabric "The Sew It Book Collection" for Red Rooster Fabrics. It's quite large 17" wide x 24" tall so it wil be a very versatile bag, it has lot's of pockets inside & out and I made a little embellishment for the strap, I used a caribiner hook and put different sewing notions on assorted yarns & ribbons it looks quite cute if I do say so myself. Oh wait.... I got a surprise also I just found out I won a beautiful grey bag from Connie at http://shedreamsbig.blogspot.com/ it was her giveaway she picked 2 number's 17 & 36 cause she had 2 gifts and I was # 17 is that great or what but, if you know me at all you know I'm a purseaholic so I am thrilled to pieces the picture is last in line. Well friends must go get ready for our meeting actually we are having a summer picnic and it just rained so hopefully its done hope your day has been fun & exciting! HUGZ to all...

I finally have a finish for August yeah I'm excited I did this off of a pattern from my dear friend Donna at http://brynwoodneedleworks.blogspot.com/ she made a beautiful quilt for a granddaughter and she did a tutorial for it so here is my version not nearly as nice as her's but I'm happy with it...I tried free motion quiltng again thinking it was going to get easier wrong I'm thinking I need to take to a friend from our quilt guild who does it on her long arm and have it done from now on but for now this will do. I love the fabric it's "Old Primrose Inn" by Backbird Designs for Moda that's it for now I must get going and get some yard work done before my DH get's home tonight from China he's been gone for almost 2 weeks will be happy when he's home!

No new sewing projects to share so here is a flower collage I put together can you see the grasshopper he was in the rose of sharon flower lots of different hydranges, colors & shapes, impaients, kalanchoe & the USA stone...collages are lot of fun to do I use Picasa for mine I also found some new nature alphabet letters while I was taking flower pictures here's a few have you tried finding any yet..".no" you say well your missing out on alot of fun they're everywhere go look bet you'll be surprised at what you can find. Material Girl Guild

We had our guild meeting last night and the program was a trunk show of a lady who use to work at local quilt shop....she brought probably 30 quilts or more to show us and these are just a few I took pictures of. She's been quilting for many years and you can certainly tell by her work it's beautiful, she said she has many, many more at home besides the one's she's given away. It all started when her & her husband went out one day looking for a quilt for their bed, they went to store after store and she couldn't find what she wanted...her husband said you "sew" don't you she said yes & he said why don't you make one and so she did and hasn't stopped yet. She was quite an inspiration hope you've enjoyed seeing these!

It was suppose to be done by today if possible so, I made this pillow because it was the quickest thing to make and I used a picture of myself that I had made into a vintage picture sort of appropriate don't you think! Everyday things

Here is a collage of everyday things I love, my oldest grandson loves tractors and on Sat. of last week a local farmer came to bale our hay andTJ always gets to ride along with him while he bales so here he is baling hay, both grandson's love swimming yesterday they got to go in the pond for the first time and play around while grandpa & daddy watched while I was walkng around my yard taking pictures of my flowers.
My hydrangea bush this year is just loaded with flowers and all colors light light pink to a darker pink, blue and light lavender so beautiful and my pansies one of my favorite flowers and my little fairy garden under an oak tree out front hope you can see the picture of a mama duck with her babies following close behind, she just came walking across our yard one day so cute "click on picture to enlarge it" hope you enjoy seeing this almost as much as I did taking them to share with all of you...my friends!!

Father's Day weekend we alway's have an "All Town Yard Sale" it starts on Friday bright & early usually people are out and about around 6:30 a.m. and it goes to around 4 or 5 p.m. then again on Sat. my daughter & son-in-law live right downtown so we have a very good spot for selling all our trash that will become someone else's treasure no, it's not really trash you know all that stuff that is taking up room that we don't use anymore you have some of that don't you? The cheerleader's from our local high school do face painting to raise $$$$$ and lot's of vendor's selling all that yummy, greasy fair food it's quite a big event and my oldest grandson set up a lemonade stand his first business adventure and he did real well he got bored after awhile but did stick with it.

A little Somethin' Jacket

This is my latest project " A little Somethin Jacket" is the name of the pattern my good friend Sandy of "Sandy In Stitches" & I went last week to our local quilt shop "Little Red Quilt House" to make it. The owner's of the shop Karen & Carol belong to the Quilt Guild we belong too "Material Girls" isn't that a neat name...well on to the jacket Carol was the instructor for the class, the fabric is "Martinique" by 3 Sisters for Moda. We got most of the construction of the jacket done in class and just had to finish the hand work at home. I had a Jelly roll of the same fabric so what's a new jacket without a new purse to go with it and you know me and purses we go hand in hand love 'em love'em and the little pin I made using my Sissix Big Kick flower die so there you have it but it's been way toooooooo hot to wear it yet!

Well....I can finally say I competely finished a wallhanging it's a BOM from Vickie at "Tozz's Corner" blog called "Hat Stands" it certainly is far from perfect but I'm just excited it's finished I used Patisserie fabric by Moda for the front and I even quilted it on machine haphazardly I might add...but my feet are wet now so hopefully with each thing I will improve.

Shooting star table runner

I made this table runner yesterday using the Shooting Star block or some call it Exquisite Star or Indian Hatchet so whatever you call it I really like this block, it's the block for our May Quilter's Guild meeting. I made the block for the meeting and decided to make the table runner

Quilter's fling shop hop!!

Yesterday my friend & neighbor & I left at 9:30 for a shop hop "A baker's Dozen Sweet Treats Shop Hop" by Quilter's Fling.com it started April 24th.-May 8th. 13 different shop's scattered all over. We did 7 of the shop's and are going to do the next 6 tomorrow " Fri." we had so much fun and did alot of damage to the old pocketbook yikes did I leave anything for tomorrow's shop's???? We received a recipe and a block pattern from each shop and a treat, at the end you receive a commemorative box to put the recipes in and a chance to win a goodie basket from the shops or the grand prize. So below is a collage of some of the things I bought, some of the shop's names and things they had displayed, everyone was real nice about letting us take pictures except for 1 shop and they said no pictures! Now I can't wait till tomorrow "ready or not here we come" more pictures after that, till then Happy shopping, sewing or whatever you may be doing♥

TJ's 7th. birthday

Yesterday we celebrated my oldest grandson TJ's 7th. birthday his birthday is the 30th. but my DH is leaving for China this weekend and we didn't want him to miss it. This is TJ on his birthday present from everyone Mom, Dad, brother, uncle John and both sets of grandparents a new gas powered quad and helmet red & black just like grandpa's big one. He was so excited...he's been driving tractors & quad's since he was about 4 of course sitting on grandpa's lap but steering and working the lever's etc. He loves the outdoors and anything that has 4 wheels he's all boy....be Safe little guy I ♥ you SOOOO much, mamaw!!!
